Alice’s Restaurant Massacree
There is Thanksgiving Day staple in my home that is more of a staple than Cranberry Sauce! It is the annual play of Alice’s Restaurant Massacree. Each morning I get up, prepare breakfast and slap my 50 year old copy of Alice’s Restaurant on the turntable and enjoy the Thanksgiving story told by Arlo Guthrie. This tradition began with Arlo Guthrie’s debut lp, released in September of 1967.
The song became a comedy film directed by Arthur Penn in 1969, immediately following the success of his “Bonnie & Clyde” with Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty. The song tells the story of happenings in Stockbridge, Massachusetts after a Thanksgiving dinner attended by friends of Alice and Ray …. Arlo is the star of the movie and plays himself.
This Thanksgiving, The Rewind will air Alice’s Restaurant, in its entirety, at 8am on Thanksgiving Day. You can listen live on 1330 am, 97.7 fm and 104.1 fm in Lake Charles. Listen on line at www.kvol330.com and on The Rewind app.
Happy Thanksgiving.
