That Time Raquel Welch Threw A Wig At Us
So in the mid-2000s as a twenty-something year old, I worked in a super fancy salon in Beverly Hills with super high profile clients. I worked at the front desk. Richard Simmons dance studio “Slimmons” was next door and the paparazzi were in every nook and cranny surrounding the salon pretty much at all times. They would hide in the trees, behind bushes, and underneath cars. One night I was walking to my car and I saw a shoe sticking out from under it and needless to say it scared the crap out of me! They would actually hide in the dumpster too. Totally pathetic. They are by far the lowest scum of the earth.
One of our regular clients was Raquel Welch. She was always nice and friendly. Not many people know this but Raquel owns a wig company. She herself wears wigs regularly. She still has hair just not much of it. She regularly saw Lorri Goddard who according to the celebrity hair world was known as the “Queen of Bleach” and would get her wigs dyed both for herself and to bring to the manufacturer. Back in her heyday, Raquel was an absolute bombshell. She still looked great for someone her age.
This one particular day me and my friend and co-worker, Dominique, were working the front desk. Raquel had been there for quite some time with Lorri working on her wigs. I can’t remember what exactly the issue was but something was messed up about scheduling. Her appointment schedule with Lorri to be exact. I had printed out her upcoming appointments and brought it to her per her request. A few minutes later she appears at the desk, hair wet with a towel around her neck. She mentions that a certain appointment has been left off of the appointment sheet. So, Dominique starts looking at the books to see what the problem could be. Raquel asks us to figure it out and get back to her. She walks back to Lorri’s chair and everything seems fine.
Dominique notices that someone else was booked at the time Raquel was supposed to be booked. This is not a big deal because all Dominique has to do is just reschedule the other person and give Raquel the original appointment. We were just going to fix it and leave it at that. No reason to even tell her that someone else had the appointment because it was totally fixable.
Well, I guess she had time to think about it and decided that even though we said we would fix it, she was going to get mad about it and let us know. She comes around the corner holding one of her wigs. She’s swinging this thing around telling us how unprofessional we are and what a huge inconvenience this is and with rage on her face balls up the wig and throws it at us! We both move to the side and the thing goes in between us and lands on the shampoo shelf behind us!
Everyone is speechless including her. She quickly realizes what a horse’s ass she just was and apologizes. I literally ( and I can’t believe that this is part of my life ) grab the wig off the shelf and HAND IT TO HER! She takes it and apologizes again and again and continues to get her hair done in Lorri’s chair.
