Gasoline Prices Tick Up For 4th Of July Travel in Louisiana

You can expect a record amount of traffic on the highways this 4th of July holiday according to the AAA. A large reason for the heavy traffic is the lower gas prices across the state. But as with anything good, you know it can last forever. With the 4th of July just days ahead, the state is seeing a slight rise in gasoline prices.

According to the Observer, the cheapest gas in the state price per gallon of regular is 2.09 while the most expensive is 2.99. (as of 7/2/09) Compare this to the cheapest gas price in the country at 1.75 and the most expensive in the country is 4.99 per gallon for regular.

Last year the state experienced the most expensive prices for gas compared to the previous six years.

Gas prices are.26 higher than a month ago and .02 higher than a year ago.

According to the AAA, travelers on the roads can expect an increase in traffic flow this year over last year.  A record-breaking 48.9 million American’s plan to travel for this holiday which is an increase of 1.9 million over 2018. The breakdown for travel plans are-

  • 41.4 % travelers will use an automobile, by far a majority of travel will be on the road this year.
  • 3.96 % will travel by air, a decrease from last year
  • 0.6% will travel by train or ship

Car rental prices are up this year compared to last year by at least 20%.
