Make Preparations Now Just In Case Acadiana Has Rain Event This Weekend

It’s early in the hurricane season to be talking about the tropics, yet here we are talking about the topics and this low pressure which is on land near Georgia and will be moving into the very hot gulf waters and will form into a tropical depression. As long as I can remember, and being a native of South Louisiana, I have never seen a low-pressure system on land and will move into the gulf and the predictions are for this to become an event.

Timing is very important and as of this moment, it would seem the system could affect South Lousiana as early as Friday and could continue throughout the weekend.

The main concern at this point would be the amount of rain Acadiana could receive and with that thought, now would be the time to make any type of preparations around your house or neighborhood. You know the areas around your house that have the potential to flood. Now is the time to seek sandbags.

Clean out the storm drains, rain gutters around your house and the ditch of debris.

Do you have items in a storage unit or in your garage? This would be a good time to lift these items off the concrete of the floor of the storage unit. You may want to search the classified sections of the paper or quick selling publications where people are giving away pallets. These work well in lifting boxes and items off the floor of the storage unit.

Walk around your home and notice the loose items that have the potential of getting caught in strong winds. Secure these items or store them is a wind safe area.

A little preparation now could help save time and effort if this system develops into a storm or a rain event within the coming days.

According to NOLA.com, the NWS says there is an 80% this low-pressure system will develop into some kind of an event over the next 4-5 days. As we get closer to the weekend, forecasters will be able to better predict the area this system will affect. As of now, we have our an eye on an area anywhere from the Florida Panhandle west to south-central Louisiana. The National Weather Service is sounding the alarm using words like “monster” and trying to get the public’s attention with statements like “initial estimates of between 7 and 15 inches of rain falling over the next seven days”.

We will keep you updated with the radio and tv stations from Delta Media.
