People keep inventing new ways to steal our money.

If you’re in the market for shipping containers, beware. The Better Business Bureau warns of a particularly clever scam. It’s called the “Sea Can Scam.”
The scammers trick their victims into paying for a nonexistent container by using the address of a legitimate business in their online advertising.

The victim goes to a website, and the “customer service rep” convinces them to pay in advance. When the customer goes to the place of business for pickup, the people at the legitimate business have no knowledge of the fraudulent sale.

The BBB advises online shoppers to double-check the firm’s contact information and to read reviews. You should also view the container before paying, and beware of ridiculously low prices.

As the saying goes, “If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.”
