SLEMCO Cancels 2021 Annual Meeting & Increases Scholarships

SLEMCO has cancelled its 84th Annual Meeting that was scheduled on Saturday, June 12th due to continuing public health concerns related to Covid-19.  The annual Scholarship Drawing is not cancelled and will be held live on Tuesday, June 1 at 9:30 am on SLEMCO’s Facebook page

Instead of awarding 20 scholarships worth $2,000 each, the company will instead be awarding 30 scholarships worth $2,000 each, to do its part to help area students, many of whom are facing economic hardships related to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Every qualified applicant who applied prior to the May 13th entry deadline will be entered into the drawing.  Winners will be notified by phone after the meeting.

“Our annual meeting each year is a festive event where several thousand members come with friends and family to get updated on SLEMCO business and meet the employees who keep their power on,” said Communications Coordinator, Mary Laurent. “Right now, though, the health and well-being of our customers and employees must come first.  Even though things are much better than last year at this time, cancelling an indoor gathering with several thousand in attendance is still the right thing to do.”

The 2022 SLEMCO Annual Meeting will be held on Saturday, June 11th.  SLEMCO provides electric power to nearly 110,000 homes and business throughout Acadiana.
