Vol 40: Pet Sounds / Magical Mystery Tour

The Beach Boys – Pet Sounds

The eleventh studio album by the American rock band the Beach Boys, Pet Sounds, was originally met with less success than past releases by the band. Pet Sounds was released in 1966 and after the initially US release it reached the number 10 spot on US Billboard 200. It was not until the album was released across the pond where it garnered instant commercial success skyrocketing to number 2 in the UK on the Top 40 Album Chart.  Pet Sounds is widely considered one of the most influential albums in musical history and features hit singles such as: “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “You Still Believe in Me,” “That’s Not Me,” “God Only Knows,” “I Know There’s an Answer,” “Pet Sounds,” and more.

The Beatles – Magical Mystery Tour

Magical Mystery Tour was released in 1967 as an accompanying soundtrack to a film with the same name by the Beatles. Although the film was heavily criticized the album was met with instant critical success. It was released in the UK as a double EP and as a single LP in the US, after the US release Magical Mystery Tour became a number one Grammy-nominated album. Magical Mystery Tour features hit singles such as: “Magical Mystery Tour,” “The Fool on the Hill,” “Flying,” “Hello, Goodbye,” “Strawberry Fields Forever,” “Penny Lane,” and “All You Need is Love.”
