Was this the Greatest Halloween Concert Ever?
It was Halloween Eve, 1973 … Many of my high school friends were attending Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI … The Edgar Winter Band’s hit record “Frankenstein” had reached the top of the Billboard 100 and “Free Ride” was climbing the charts, eventually reaching the Top 20. It was coined – “They Only Come Out At Night Tour” – named to promote the lp which harbored the two hit songs … The opening act was Focus who was enjoying the fruits of their labor with the hit “Hocus Pocus”
So here you have it … You had … Frankenstein, Hocus Pocus and They Only Come Out At Night – all combined with Halloween Eve – AND a $5.00 ticket! How could you miss it?
There were about ten of us 20 year-old concert lovers embarking on Bowen Field House and having one of the most memorable Halloweens of our young life. The only thing that could have made it better would have been a guest shot from brother Johnny and it not being a week night.
Notable Tracks – “That Old Time Rock and Roll” “Tobacco Road” “Frankenstein” “Free Ride”
