I’m sure you’ve already seen the pop-up fireworks sales tents in Acadiana as the area gears up to celebrate the nations birthday.

How familiar are you with the local ordinances and laws? It’s always best to stay on top of these laws as they could change from year to year or holiday specific.

According to the Lafayette Advertiser, these are the latest rules for using fireworks in Lafayette Parish.

  • Fireworks are not legal in any form within the city limits of Lafayette.
  • The only area to legally discharge fireworks in the parish are in unincorporated areas.

Fireworks can be discharged through July 5th between the hours of 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.  Additional hours for July 4th are from 10 pm to 1 am,

The sale of fireworks will officially end at 10 pm, July 5th.

The city allows firecrackers, roman candles, skyrockets, and torpedos.

Remember safety first! Always have an adult for supervision when using fireworks. Make sure children do not handle any of the fireworks. Keep water near the area of launch. Never relight a dud firework

Don’t forget about your pets. The 4th of July and New Years Eve are the two worst days for dogs. The sound of fireworks may scare some dogs and they will run away from the noise. Many dogs end up at area shelters on these two holidays. Make sure dogs are secure inside the house or away from the sound of the fireworks. I secure and fenced in yard will help keep your dog in an area.

Happy 4th of July!
