Downtown Alive is back! It’s a free outdoor concert. This Friday night’s event is the first of the Fall season. There will plenty of food and drinks to buy so don’t worry about having to lug around your big ole ice chest. The Greenroom and Jefferson Street Pub will on the scene providing drink specials. But you can bring a lawn chair just in case you get tired of dancing. And there will be lots of dancing! Wear comfortable shoes. Or better yet, be sure to wear your Zydeco Shoes.
Downtown Alive will feature two Zydeco bands. Corey Ledet and his Zydeco Band will take the stage first and then Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band will close out the night. The whole thing starts around 5 pm. This concert is also a celebration of the Evangeline Maid Bread Company. The company is celebrating 100 years in business. Can you believe Evangeline Maid has been baking bread for 100 years? My uncle always said you know it’s good bread when it sticks to the roof of your mouth.
First up, will be Corey Ledet and his Zydeco Band. Corey Ledet is so excited about playing this Friday night. He stopped by our studio to talk more about it. Corey grew up in Houston. His family is a transplant family. His dad is originally from Parks but moved to Houston for a job. So even though, the Ledet family lived in the big city they still lived like a Louisiana family. Corey grew up going to trail rides, eating rice and gravy and listening to the older relatives speak French. He always knew he wanted to play Zydeco music. After high school, he pursued that dream and started a band. And he has been playing Zydeco music ever since.
