Just Say No And Feel Better

Are you extremely busy? Do you feel stressed? Do you have time to relax and breathe? You may have troubling saying NO. That’s according to a new study.

Think about for a minute, when was the last time you told someone no?

According to James Altucher, author of, The Power Of No, if you start to say “no” you could start to feel better and improve your life. He says that if you say yes to something that you don’t want to do, you start to hate the task and that will lead to resentment of the person who asked you to do the task. Constantly saying yes to everyone and everything wears at your mental health and eventually takes its toll.

It is hard to say no. Saying yes is easy, it makes people happy. But it really can run you ragged. And sometimes people take advantage of a person who can’t say no. I find myself in this situation with my teenagers. Sometimes, I want to say no because I just don’t feel like running around town, picking up all of their friends and spending money feeding them all at a restaurant. But I don’t say no. I just fume inside wishing I was home watching Netflix.

This study suggests that if you start saying no you are taking control of your mental well-being. In this study, the author revealed that saying “yes” stems from a person’s childhood. As children, we may have been praised for saying yes and doing as we were told. Or maybe didn’t get adequate attention from the parents, so to get attention by doing tasks that “pleased” the parent.  According to this article, it is easy to break free from the disease of saying yes. The author says to try a simple exercise where you start saying no to little things. According to his research, you will feel happier in an instant. You can start by telling people to give you time to think about it. This way you will have time to take a good at the situation and you can decide if have time to do this favor so other parts of your life won’t be sacrificed.

In the article, the author reminds us that the billionaire businessman Warren Buffet once said, “Successful people say no to almost everything.”
