Lundi Love: KOK’s Wings and Things

KOK Wings 20 piece

My teenaged son loves to eat chicken wings. Especially spicy wings. The spicer the better. One time he convinced me to buy fresh habanero peppers to whip up a homemade Mango-habanero sauce. A DIY recipe video in his Instagram newsfeed convinced him that he and I could handle this recipe. So I did it. Reluctantly, I bought the ingredients and we followed the step by step instructions. The whole time, while preparing, I thought there was no way we were going to be able to eat a sauce concocted from habanero peppers. But, actually, the sauce turned out to be tolerable.

I only made that sauce once. It’s a big mess to prepare wings. From trimming of the wingtips to slowly stirring of sauce, ugh. I prefer to just order wings from a restaurant. It’s so much easier. So recently, when my son asked me to cook hot wings for supper, I did what most people do. I asked Facebook where to go.

I posted the question, “Where in Lafayette is the best place to get chicken wings?”

My social media friends responded fast. An overwhelming majority of the comments suggested KOK Wings and Things. With lots of sub comments agreeing that KOK Wings was the place to go. We searched Google, pulled up a menu, and planned our attack.

The website featured the entire menu plus daily specials and the different locations. We decided to call and place an order for pickup from the Acadiana mall location since it was closer. Although there is only one phone number posted on the site that appears to be for the University location, that one phone number actually works for both Lafayette locations. A recording gives you the option to be transferred to either location.

The order of wings was ready when we arrived. The lady behind the counter went through our order with us. She showed up the wings, the fries and dipping sauces. I was so happy that she did this.

Since the pandemic kicked off in March, Americans order Togo food from restaurants more than ever. I am one of these Americans. The only drawback is that almost every time, there is always food missing. It doesn’t matter where we go. I understand that it is very easy for this to happen. Restaurants are now bogged down with Togo orders. So I appreciate that this worker at KOK Wings took the time to go through the order with me, making sure we were happy and double-checking that no food was missing.

Overall, we loved the wings. Tasty.

For this reason, Mustang 1071 is showing some love for KOK Wings and Things.
