The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns needed a win in the worst way to wrap up their four-game homestand. A balanced attack was the recipe for success and the Cajuns snapped a six-game skid on Saturday night in a 79-62 win over the Troy Trojans.

How It Happened:

The game started slow with neither team scoring until Tirus Smith drained a three-pointer at the 17:36 mark. Troy built a 16-8 lead with 13:05 left in the first half on Ty Gordon’s three-point play. The Trojans really started to impose their will later in the first half taking a 23-13 off of a Darian Adams bucket.

The Cajuns fought back late in the first half, tying things up at 31 off of a three-point play from Mylik Wilson with 4:32 left until the break. However, the Trojans closed the first half with a 11-0 run that was capped off by a three-pointer from Desmond Williams to take a 42-34 lead. The Cajuns got a late layup from Wilson to make it a five-point deficit as both teams headed to the locker room.

The Cajuns took advantage of a slow start for the Trojans to start the second half, going on a 15-3 run to really take control of the contest and Dou Gueye really led the way with eight points during that stretch. Troy got within three points with 7:51 left in regulation, but they remained cold from the field and that created an opportunity for Louisiana to close the deal with a 9-2 run that included another three-point play from Wilson and that all but sealed the victory for the Cajuns.

Big Number: 7

The Trojans shooting from the field may have been the key for the Cajuns to snap their six-game skid. Troy went 7-of-26 from the field in the second half and that gave the Cajuns plenty of opportunities to go on big runs.

Player of the Game: Mylik Wilson

Wilson’s first double-double was more than enough to earn the player of the game honors, but it  wasn’t easy with big games from Tirus Smith and Dou Gueye. However, Wilson’s 18 points and 13 boards was more than enough to earn the honor.

Next Up: Monday vs Appalachian State; Tipoff at 7 pm
