It turns out the school has officially come to an end. Governor John Bell Edwards announced today that schools will remain closed for the remainder of the academic school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to reports, Governor Edwards was in Monroe to assess the storm damage while he was there he also talked about the impending school year for students. This report said that in order for the state to continue working on slowing the spread of the virus, children need to be kept out of a classroom.

Governor Edwards is expected to meet with educators to come up with a plan for the upcoming school year. In this article, Governor Edwards also stated that students will not be required to make up the time missed. Distance learning will still be available online. And summer school is still expected to start on time. There is some talk to have the fall school year start early but that still needs to be discussed among educators.
