VOL 79: Glass Houses / Departure

Billy Joel – Glass Houses

Glass Houses is Billy Joel’s seventh studio album and is the third collaboration between Joel and producer Phil Ramone. It was released on March 10, 1980 and topped the pop charts for six weeks. Joel was awarded a Grammy Award for “Best Male Rock Vocal Performance” for the album. The album is the 41st best selling album of the 1980s and has sold more than 7.1 million copies in the US alone. The album starts off with the sound of shattering glass and has Joel on the cover poised to throw a rock through the window of his own glass house.

Journey – Departure

Departure is the sixth studio album from Journey and was released on February 29, 1980. The album featured an edgier sound than the band’s previous recordings, which was attributed to the “live in the studio” way the songs were recorded. This album gave Journey their first appearance in the top ten of the Billboard 200 chart and peaked at number 8.  The lead track, “Any Way You Want It” was a top 25 single.
