Voices/Crimes Of Passion
This coming weekend, The Rewind will feature an 80’s weekend and On The Turntable will follow suit with two lps that are both celebrating 40 years since their release. “Voices” from Daryl Hall and John Oates, the duo that owned the Billboard Charts in the 80’s … followed by “Crimes of Passion” from Pat Benatar …
“Voices”
Voices is the ninth studio album by Daryl Hall and John Oates. The album was released this month in 1980 by RCA Records. It spent 100 weeks on the Billboard 200, peaking at number 17. It took some time, however, the album became a massive hit spinning off four singles into the Top 40 over four different seasons …. “How Does It Feel To Be Back” in the summer of 1980, “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’” in the fall of 1980, “Kiss On My List” went to number one in the spring of 1981 and “You Make My Dreams” climbed to number five in the summer of 1981.
Voices was the creative and commercial breakthrough for Daryl Hall and John Oates … due mostly to a shift to a more bluesy, blue-eyed soul inspired style of recording … this was the beginning of Hall & Oates becoming the biggest pop duo in history and ruling the charts in the early to mid 80’s …. Best Ever Albums Dot Com considers Voices to be the 135th best lp of 1980 and Digital Dream Door Dot Com brings it in at number 25 in their top 100 of 1980.

Crimes of Passion is Benatar’s biggest selling career album, having been certified 4x Platinum in the United States alone.
Crimes of Passion ended the year at number five on Billboard’s year-end chart and delivered Benatar her first Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. The music video for the song “You Better Run” was the second music video ever aired on MTV in 1981.
