Cosmo’s Factory/Emotional Rescue

On The Turntable is the program where we actually play vinyl records in their entirety …  This week’s program will feature one album celebrating 50 years since its release, and another celebrating 40 years since its release.   We’re talking about Cosmo’s Factory from Creedence Clearwater Revival and Emotional Rescue from The Rolling Stones…

Cosmo’s Factory

An album that we featured On The Turntable in August 2017, make a return appearance celebrating 50 years since its release … Cosmo’s Factory, the fifth studio album by Creedence Clearwater Revival, was delivered for airplay this very week in 1970.  In a period of twenty six month, CCR delivered five albums and eleven top five singles … CCR was played so often on the radio during  those two years, that over-exposure spoiled my appreciation for the band …  today, I love them … CCR was a great rock and roll band…

The name of the lp was created from the Berkley, California warehouse where the band practiced.  Doug ‘Cosmo’ Clifford dubbed the building ‘The Factory’ because John Fogerty made them practice nearly every night.  The Cosmo’s Factory delivered six singles … all of which reached the top five on the Billboard Charts … Rolling  Stone ranked the lp number 265 on the magazine’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time …. It is also featured in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die … Best Ever Albums Dot Com considers Cosmo’s Factory at the 10th best lp of 1970 and the 52nd best of the 1970’s … Digital Dream Door Dot Com ranked the lp at number 6 on it’s top 100 of 1970.

Notable Tracks – ‘Traveling Band” “Lookin’ Out My Back Door” “Long As I Can See The Light” “Who’ll Stop The Rain” “Run Through The Jungle”

Emotional Rescue

Emotional Rescue is the 15th British and 17th American studio album by The Rolling Stones, released in June 1980. Fresh off of the success of their prior album, Some Girls, many critics accused the Stones of coasting through this lp … yet the Emotional Rescue sessions created so much material; much of it also made up the lion’s share of the follow up – Tattoo You …. Upon release, Emotional Rescue topped the charts in at least six countries and delivered multiple top ten hits on the pop and dance charts…

Many critics considered Emotional Rescue … Formulaic when comparing it to Some Girls … However, I found The Stones being quite formulaic during their 1979 and early 80’s lp … they all included dance songs, rockers and reggae infused cuts … it was a formula that worked … at least for me … Emotional Rescue delivered The Stone’s first number one lp in the UK since Goats Head Soup … Best  Ever Albums Dot Com considers Emotional Rescue the 75th best lp of 1980 , though I find that very low … it is also considered the 581st best of the 1980’s by the website …  Digital Dream Door Dot Com ranks the album at number 41 in its top 100 of 1980…

Notable Tracks – “Emotional Rescue” “She’s So Cold” ‘Dance” “Send It To Me”
